Alt-Veyata - Summary

Old Veyata is the late common bridge level of the Veyatic language family between Proto-Veyatic and the later clearly separated forms of Veyrathi and Veytharic. It is already smoothed and usable across regions, but not yet as analytical and standardized as the later Veyrathi and not yet as densely reorganized as Veytharisch.

Short profile

  • Function: last common Hochkoine before the East-West split
  • Sound: full, slightly archaic, denser than Veyrathi
  • Typology: moderately suffixing with residual oblique, genitive clitic and freer sentence structure
  • Verbal field: present on -a, past on -na, future with post-verbal ra
  • Core impression: mediating, historically credible middle position

Distinctive features

  • Short and full forms of pronouns coexist.
  • Possession is marked via =ren, preparing later Veyrathian 'ren.
  • Non-verbal predicates often remain present without a copula, but can be marked with fera.
  • SOV and SVO are next to each other; It is precisely from this that the different norms of Veyrathi and Veytharisch later develop.
  • Particles like sai, hana, kei and ra clearly show the later divergence of the two daughter languages.

Overall impression

Alt-Veyata sounds like a language in which old depth and new clarity can be heard at the same time. It is no longer the raw ancestral speech of the Ur-Veyatic, but also not yet the separate world of the later daughter languages. This is precisely why Old Veyata is suitable as a credible last common language stage before the actual split.
