Veyrathi - Lexicon
Lexical guidelines
- In the lexicon, verbs have the infinitive form
-a. - Strains should be usable for derivation with
-thand-or. - Unnecessary homonymy is avoided; necessary homonymy is marked.
- Natural synonymy is desirable when register, style or precision remain clearly distinguishable.
- Generic terms should remain actively used; If possible, new hyponyms are attached to existing hyperonyms.
- Role concepts remain gender-neutral by default; Pronouns carry Enari gender.
- New lexemes favor one or two syllables, open vowel leading and native consonant sequences instead of transparent earthly leanings.
- Specialist lexis is preferably built up from existing roots, derivation and composition.
- Numerals follow the canon from Chapter 07.
Controlled homonymy
- Permitted:
ar(article/demonstrative),is(pronoun/intensifier),sen(majority of people/number word/technical root),vel(adjective/dialogue signal) - Marked but productively controlled:
kir(free root inkiravs. bound prefix),lir(free root inliravs. bound layer morpheme) - To avoid: new lexemes as
no,sa,han,kei,ka
