Veyrathi - Lexicon

Lexical guidelines

  • In the lexicon, verbs have the infinitive form -a.
  • Strains should be usable for derivation with -th and -or.
  • Unnecessary homonymy is avoided; necessary homonymy is marked.
  • Natural synonymy is desirable when register, style or precision remain clearly distinguishable.
  • Generic terms should remain actively used; If possible, new hyponyms are attached to existing hyperonyms.
  • Role concepts remain gender-neutral by default; Pronouns carry Enari gender.
  • New lexemes favor one or two syllables, open vowel leading and native consonant sequences instead of transparent earthly leanings.
  • Specialist lexis is preferably built up from existing roots, derivation and composition.
  • Numerals follow the canon from Chapter 07.

Controlled homonymy

  • Permitted: ar (article/demonstrative), is (pronoun/intensifier), sen (majority of people/number word/technical root), vel (adjective/dialogue signal)
  • Marked but productively controlled: kir (free root in kira vs. bound prefix), lir (free root in lira vs. bound layer morpheme)
  • To avoid: new lexemes as no, sa, han, kei, ka

Data format (mandatory)

  • The IPA column reflects the broad teaching and standard pronunciation with word accent; Everyday language allophones are not specifically noted here.
  • Compounds remain permitted as separate lexemes if they have a fixed meaning.

Semantic depth relations (binding)

Synonym families

  • rora / vaekeva: both "negotiate"; rora has a market and conversational effect, vaekeva has an institutional or procedural effect.
  • sula / synzora: both "agree"; sula is short, spontaneous and interactive, synzora is explicit and suitable for protocols.
  • dera / kirzora: both "contradict"; dera is more everyday, kirzora more analytical or formal.
  • pora / retmyra: both "remember"; pora is more personal and episodic, retmyra is knowledge-oriented and more systemic.
  • dena / vektala: both "break"; dena is the living old form of everyday travel, vektala the transparent, system-oriented form of movement.

Homonymy and resolution- ar: free article/demonstrative word; additionally bound prefix ar- with resultant value. Free vs. bound position resolves the ambiguity.

  • is: Personal pronoun for enis in subject/object position versus intensifier directly before adjective or adverb.
  • sen: neutral majority, number word 1000 and technical root in forms like senvor; Reference field and composition separate the readings.
  • vel: Adjective “clear” versus dialogue signal “understood, good”; Prosody and sentence roll loosen the form.
  • kir: free verb root in kira "cook" versus bound prefix kir- "separate/disassemble"; the fully developed word form decides.
  • lir: free verb root in lira "read" versus bound histology morpheme -lir "layer"; the morphological position decides.

  • Agent formation follows productive Stamm + -or.
  • Noun -> adjective follows productively Nomen + -i (e.g. kevar -> kevari, vethan -> vethani, talen -> taleni).
  • Compounds remain right-headed and are considered separate lexemes if they have a fixed technical meaning.
