Ur-Veyatic - Overview

Purpose: Reconstructed common origin language of Veyrathi and Veythar.

##Status

  • Ur-Veyatic is not a modern national language or a current standard language.
  • It acts as an early language stage of the old Enaris coastal, river and council alliances: cultic, legal, seafaring and epic, not nation-state.
  • The language should sound old, credible and independent: heavier and deeper than Veyrathi, more open and resonant than Veythar.
  • In terms of world feeling, Ur-Veyatisch consciously stands at a distance from today's centers of power. It is ancestral speech, not official norm.

Overall profile

  • Sound: sonorous, archaic, slightly mineral; common sequences like ae, ey, au, th, zh, -r, -th, -n
  • Typology: moderately suffixing with old relic particles; Roots remain clearly visible
  • Sentence structure: strongly structured with information; Legal and table style favors verb late position, narrative style allows early verb
  • Noun phrase: basic pattern Det + Nomen + Adjektiv; Prefixed adjectives are solemn, contrastive or oath-like
  • Verbs: many basic forms end in -ar; old particles for prospective, irrealis and negation come before the verb
  • Morphological markers: abstracts on -at, animate/socially marked plurals on -i, collective plurals on -an

Role in the language family

  • Veyrathi inherited from Ur-Veyatic the more open syllable guidance, the tendency towards clear stems and the copulaless normal predication.
  • Veytharisch inherited the denser word margins, the stronger brackets in the sentence and the more conservative preservation of old particles.
  • Ur-Veyatic is therefore not an average between the two daughter languages, but rather the credible older source from which both have preserved different parts.
