Enu in the caste system
Enu occupy a paradoxical position in many Enarian societies: biologically they are indispensable for the continued existence of the species, but socially they often only have a low formal status within the caste system.
Status paradox
The cultural ambivalence towards the Enu arises from their dual function. On the one hand, they ensure the early supply of the offspring through liquor nutritivus and lactation. On the other hand, in many regions it is precisely this closeness to care, everyday life and physical work that is used as an opportunity to attribute primarily servile or lower roles to them.
Institutional consequences
This status paradox is particularly evident in children's homes, breeding centers and other care institutions. Enu carry out a large part of the direct work there, but do not automatically receive the highest rank or the greatest symbolic recognition for it.
